Echinops ritro

This has grown in horrible soil in full sun by my front gate for twenty years. Flowers, beloved by bees, on stems around three feet. The leaves are a bit coarse so some screening is useful. Sometimes flowers again late in the season if stems are cut down when the flowers are over; alternatively leaves them for finches to enjoy

Thank you Andrew, for the info, I have finches visiting our garden so I will live the flowers for them to enjoy.
