Back garden loop

It'll look much better when the plants start filling out - I meant to put bark round them to help them, but it rained so I didn't.

I'm thinking of having tiered beds in that wider "loop", could get three levels at least, more growing room and would provide a nice "garden" for the fairy door when I get round to fitting it

the gardeneres aregoing to start on the other side of the back next time, there are several layers of dead shrubs buried under the rampant front ones; they'll cut them back and find me some more space.

Already found me a Sweet Pea, growing up through the shrubs suffounding it.

You've exciting plans ? What exactly is on the other side of the fencing ? From this pic, it looks like dense woodland !

it is, a bit. there's a wide belt of trees and shrubs all along our back fences; it's very overgrown and tangled, as I found out when i tried to see if I could get to my back fence from the other side!

It's part windbreak and part security, I think; certainly not easy to get through. the folidage is so thick that when I ventured into it, although it had been raining for days, dead twigs were still dry enough to crack underfoot - there's probably tons of dead wood that would do very well for burning, if it could be got at without me having to go all round hte block and back again

Yes.. no doubt lots of dead wood ... I guess there are many birds and wild creatures in that woodland.

I'd think so, it's also a mini nature reserve, wild land. I only collected wood around the edge, and it didn't take me long to fill a very large bag to the extend that i had to struggle to lift it. That'll take me weeks to burn; I've only a mini-barbie, about 14" across, so it has to be broken fairly small to fit on witout danger of it tipping as the inner end burns.

I wouldn't take much each time, nor very often: it's doing good where it is, for the ground and the life there

Looking mysteriously green and interesting Fran and a heck of a lot better. Hard work clearing dense undergrowth. I'm sure if the birds can tolerate murder by cat and predation of nests by magpie in our much frequented garden, they will like your woodland. Clear out the undercroft and thin out the underbrush and it would be a managed woodland. Bluebells, sun glinting through the leaves, primroses, red campion, little violets, cowslips....heaven.

thanks, Dorjac. I've still got a couple of bluebell bulbs waiting to be planted; the edge of the back fence might be "woodland" enough for them, and if I clear more space, I can spread them round a bit - and maybe try other woodland-y plants

At least you are getting to know the locals,Fran..and all useful people to know..that's great,in the short time you have been there..Your garden is certainly on the way up,and it's interesting to see each stage..:o)

I think the HA does meetings every now and then, so the next one should give me ops to meet my neighours and say hi

We live in a HA bungalow too,but they were built privately for over 55's.to be able to buy..best move we ever made,over 12 years ago..:o)

would'nt mind buying this one, or ata least one like it but a bit closer to town, lol. This is an estate for people to retire to from London, to free-up housing there - my next door neighbour came from Greenwich, just over the river from me.

There must be local garden organisations, local disabled garden charities, i'm just so slow at getting round to contacting them... but meeting and chatting to neighbours will be good
