It will be beautiful as a standard, last year this flopped all over the place and I could not think of how I was going to keep it stood upright but found some tripod frames on line and they have worked just right for the roses which grow big and flop about they do keep them much tidier and help show them off much better. :O)

Its really glowing today, there are three together on this raised border, Summer Song, Graham Thomas and Lady of Shallot they go very well together, well I think so lol :O) Will post a picture in a minute.

I bet they look stunning :)) This one is gorgeous. I agree with you re. supports. I am training my Fighting Temeraire up an obelisk. I love my shrub roses, but I don't like it when they flop all over the place and you don't see the flowers as well either. Well worth the effort of tying in I think.

I bought some willow supports and they are even better, but obviously they will rot in time, but for now they are doing a great job. I put them in the side border where the old greenhouse used to be (along the crazy paving pathway) they are supporting Pat Austin, Young Lycidas and Port Sunlight, they flopped dreadfully and grew and grew last year but they are being retained very well with the willow supports.

I'm sure. I would like a willow arbour. Next year!
