I was surprised to see another emerging Cicada last night, this one had just emerged and the wings are still folded in.

Yes very noisy! I am indoors with the windows closed and can still hear them over fans and air conditioning. It's a constant buzzing sound from every tree top but I enjoy listening to them. I miss them at the end of summer, they are much more soothing than the screams of blue jays at 4 or 5 every morning.

:-) Jays can be annoying....for sure.

wow, "what big eyes you've got" - and what good vision you've got, Rkwright, to have noticed it. Mind you, it doesn't exactly blend into its surroundings ... wonder how it avoided being munched?

It had just emerged when I saw it but I'd be surprised if it lasted very long. The next day there was no trace of it, even the shell wasn't attached any more. There are a lot of birds around during the day and if it was exposed by morning then I'm sure it made a meal for one of them.

sadly true - but that's why nature has them by the thousand, safety in numbers for a lucky few
