These will look beautiful until first rain will come. I have hundreds of them scattered all over. Inherited from previous owner.

Wow, lucky you. Can you use it as saffron?

No, this kind is only pretty to look at. They are very fragile and first heavy rain will knock them to the ground.
Rains will not start until late September or October. We might get some drizzle here and there and it is OK. They do not mind that.

Are they different from the wild crocuses which grow in our mountains, then?

These are cultivated.

I see. I was just wondering, if all are planted, as you wrote that there are hundreds scattered around. The climate (dry sunny summers) is evidently optimal there also for natural ones.

Yes, we have dry, warm (hot this year ) summers but interestingly I do not see them wild in the nature. Maybe because we have very wet and mild winters?

Saffron doesn t matter mild winters. It likes sunny slopes in valleys.

It is not the temperature but the wetness which could be a problem Katarina. We grow some large trees such as Douglas firs and Western red cedars. They need lots of water and they are happy here. They suffer during the summer but suck the water during the winter which makes them survive here.
