Thanks everyone , forgot to take cuttings so this will be dug up before it gets too cold, not totally hardy, next year I will remember cuttings then i'll try it outside as it is in a really sheltered spot and I've read it gets hardier as it gets older??

Why is it that the best blue Salvias are not very hardy?

As Simbad says, the bigger it gets the hardier it gets. It's a tuberous Salvia.
Strangely, both mine and Sues have set seed for the first time ever. I'm hoping that they will be viable and that they will revert back to the true S.guaranitica species.

I keep checking for seed but no sign of any on mine, lucky you !!!

Good job I read this, I have a blue one in the border at the moment,no idea what it's called, but will dig it out and shelter over winter....Thanks for tipping me off:-)

They're the first seeds in six years of growing it Simbad.

No I didn'dt take one when it was in flower, and can't find the label!Have dug it out and it's tucked away in the shed. Will look out for seeds next season, although I'm better at cuttings than seed propagation.
