how high does the water get when in full spate? you'd need rocks to be firmly anchored indeed.

This past spring the water was above the culvert and washed away our driveway. it was almost to the roadway. I noticed a small washout and told my hub as we were leaving for town, that we would have to park near the road and carry our groceries up. He was sceptical but when we arrived home we had to make stepping stones to get across the driveway! Balancing act--- stepping stones---rushing water--and grocery bags! It was an adventure we had to repeat a number of times before the snowmelt/runoff peaked and I got a load of gravel. It requires two more before winter sets in. I have more concrete to mix and anchor stones, then fingers crossed for next spring.

ooh, 'eck! that was a dramatic rise! I noticed a line in th epic where the grass stops, wondered if the water had reached that point and killed the grass that used to be there.
Do you hae a permanent raised access to the house now? Not just stepping stones, something a bit more stable and dependable - just in case?

The line you see, Fran, is my digging. The water did reach that height though. it ran right over the roadway and carried much of it away.
I have a friend who has pledged to bring me a couple of loads of gravel. My son is going to help me design a bridge...but that will be next year.

good for them! once it's in place, it should solve the problem. Just hope this coming winter/srping isn't too severe.

Yes! I'm hopeful. there's talk of an El Nino winter. (shorter and milder)...but I've learned that there's no second guessing old man Winter. Just hope it's not as long or as cold as the last.
