I knew somebody who collected plants from the Acanthacae family. He had a huge greenhouse so they grew fine of course. He gave me a Sanchezia that did great for a few years outdoors for me-flowered..then a cold winter got it.
But anyway's that whole family makes for some of the most exotic looking plants we can grow here.

Yes, flowering plants in the Acanthaceae family are terrific.

Have you ever tried Megaskepasma erythrochlamys (Brazilian Red Cloak)? It's one of the most spectacular flowering shrubs. I have many. My original cutting-grown plant came form a friend in Oakland.

I love this plant. They have a nice specimen at Oxford Botanic Gardens.

I have so many I grew from cuttings. They are all blooming like crazy right now.

When the drought is over I'm going to plant some on the side of the house where they should grow better in the ground.

If it ever sets seed it will send you some, if you want.

They might be interesting. I'm considering taking over some poly tunnels as a plant playground.

That should be fun. Lots of planting area.

Fun is the name of the game! Two 15 metre heated greenhouses and four 15 metre unheated poly tunnels. I need to decide by new year.

Wow! That's huge planting areas. If I had that kind of space here I would have a nursery.

Long term that may be an option. But for it to viable I think that it would need to be specialist with a largely unique product range. That would need to include rare/unusual hardy perennials through to exotics for pot culture in greenhouses and conservatories.
Plan B would be to buy an adjacent strip of land and build an eco house. The farmer who owns the land in question is happy to sell and support such a project.

I wish I had this opportunity. Good luck in whatever you do. :>)
