Its a beautiful plant ...

This plant was a big surprize for me. It grew so big so quickly. It definitely likes that spot. It is at least 3ft high and 6Ft wide. I planted a gunnera there before and it died.
There is an awareness about gunneras in this Island lately. Tofino botanical gardens on the west coast are removing all their gunneras. There is also a ban on vinca minor (very invasive here). Our countryside is already infested with the English ivy and scotch broom shrub. They all love it here.... and I do not blame them I love it here too :-)
I planted another Hakonechloa grass close by and hope it will do well there. Right now it is only small 1foot clump.

I'm not surprised about the Vinca minor or the English Ivy they spread easily in our gardens the broom mainly likes to grow on heath lands and sandy areas ...

Never seen this grass as massive as this!
This is a real monster!! I can't believe my eyes.
Mine is still very tiny -- a baby compared to this!

How long do you have it Tommymoo? This is about 3 years old. I have planted another (tiny one) this year in another location so we will see how it will grow.

I smuggled a tiny plant back in Sep. 2011 when I went back to Japan. This is the photo right after I palnted it out:

How big was yours when you bought / planted it?
I'm so curious to know!!!!!!

It is doing well Tommymoo. It is going to be huge in no time. Mine was somewhere in the middle between yours two. It is planted at the bottom of the hill at the end of the septic field. My first gunnera died in that same spot but maybe it was the harsher winter and not the location which killed it.

Thanks Klahanie for your answer to my question.
You said you had another one in the different spot. Have you got a photo of it?
