Euphorbia trigona

Euphorbia trigona

This is normally grown as a houseplant, but it is around 5 feet tall. A type of spurge and not a cactus. I have had this for several years, but it has never had a flower.

Amazing .. would this qualify for GoYpedia Desert Plants ?

I don't think it would be listed as a Desert Plant but instead as a Succulent. It originates in central Africa and fills the niche of a cactus. Most people in the UK would have to grow it indoors because it will not take any freezing temperatures.

Well I would never have put it in the euphorbia family amazing, I'm off to google what the flowers look like :-)
The Euphorbia 'Stygiana' I was asking you about in the spring has grown so much in its first year its over 3ft already and looks very healthy, no flowers this year though.

Oh yes the flowers are very different they look more like a coloured leaf :-)

What is amazing is that is is so closely related to the poinsettia. The nursery where I got this had some monster size ones.

E.trigona 'rubra' is also found. Mine stays outdoors. Again,in the bay area where you place it makes huge difference when freezes roll around. 1998 killed a large one I had at 28f..Dec 2013 had a 28f,and another large one started after losing the first did fine.It was in a better spot I guess.

It stays above 40F, and usually above 50F here. Everything is so similar to the Bay Area, I am surprised it has never snowed where I am. We have 2 mountains that get it (Pico [the highest point in Portugal], and Santa Barbara which is on this island; just like Mt Diablo and Mt. Tamalpias).

Since 2000,we've had two winters where the lowest low was 35f,and a 34f..but 10a almost always. You are almost San Francisco 10b moderate. I say almost because I know you're even milder then the City.
