I used to have one in a pot for years. I used to put it in some shelter for the winter, for it to be dryish.

Hywel - it's water in the crown, freezing and thawing, that it doesn't like.

If it gets too big to move, you can buy a fleece cosy and put that over the plant and pot and use pegs or string to keep it in place. I do that with mine.

Actually the one I had, I found it in the middle of a road, with traffic going over it. It was quite small. (Some vandals must have pulled it out of a display, and thrown it there) I stopped the car, got out, and rescued it and it grew into a nice big plant :) So I was rather upset when it died ...
