Funny, I was just thinking yesterday about how long it takes to grow a garden with trees you can walk under! There's something so 'safe' about a garden with lots of verticals in it. I love the sensation of being with plants that are bigger than me! Nice view!

I know what you mean Karen, we are trying to create a private garden, it is coming along, but these things do take time, at least you do have that on your side lol!!

Different 'looks' in every season is what makes' English ' gardening so interesting it's almost as though we have 4 gardens ,I'd give the winter one a miss but would find it hard to choose between the other 3 .........

oh Amy! how can you say so? ;) I do love a winter garden, especially when the sun shines. Ivy is one of my favourite plants! You're right. Getting it looking interesting and beautiful all year is the real challenge....and nobody does it like the British!

I do know what you mean Karen we have interesting things going on non stop in the winter , the snowdrops and Daffs are peeping through already plus buds are appearing on countless shrubs I hope any sharp frosts we have won't kill them off ,It's only the cold weather and dark evenings that I really don't like I always look forward to two weeks after Christmas when I can see it staying lighter each evening ....

This year we feel the garden in its winter mode is much better than in previous years, only because we have concentrated on using lots of evergreen shrubs....

In the summer they seem so insignificant. But come winter, they take centre stage and they can be absolutely joyous!

I agree entirely Karen I would not like to be without shrubs especially evergreens.

Lovely picture DD. I like a few evergreens to liven up th winter scene too. The Camellias are a blessing. They do shed bright gold leaves and I sweep them under the bushes to slowly rot down. They sit under the Camellias and glow. The buds on the Camellias are fantastic this year. The oldest one is already in bloom.

Dorjac I think the Camellias are going to be fantastic this time, you must put a photograph on of yours..
