Terrible photo but taken with my mobile through a rainstreaked kitchen window. He is getting very daring now but as we often get a female sparrowhawk flying through or even perching in the birch in the back hedge, it is risky but
obviously worth it. He loves his fatballs.

He looks about the size of our Downy Woodpecker. They love suet and are always the first to show up when I put it out. No snow? We had another couple of inches of it but the temps were above freezing today and it's melting. We seem to be locked in a cycle. I hope it moderates soon because if it all melts away and then it becomes very cold it will be the second assault on my perennials in as many months.
