My super sweet variety of pineapple is pretty much ripe. It's a little smaller than I though it would be; however, it never got any fertilizer and was in a pot with a triangle palm (Dypsis decaryi). Photo taken Dec. 15, 2014.

My dad grows them so much better than me.
This was a really good-tasting pineapple variety I purchased at the grocery store. So, I decided to keep the top and plant it.
I see people here in San Diego grow them in the ground and get really nice plants with pineapples. Every time I attempt to put one into the ground the bugs eat the roots and kill the plant.

I just cut it yesterday (Dec. 16th). It smells very sweet. I'm hoping it taste good. Good luck with growing pineapples in your tunnel. Give them a lot of space because the plants can grow very big and wide.

Yes, I'm lucky! LOL! :>)
It's perfect timing, also. The weather just started turning cold the last couple of days...highs only 65ºF (18ºC). It's actually feeling very cold! Next week nice warm weather returns...temps in the upper 70's (26ºC) for Christmas week.

Is that purplish coloring just lighting or is it really that colorful?

The leaves are glaucous. It's not the lighting.
