This plant does something counter intuitive- It's stems turn nearly black in shade outdoors. The more sun it gets, the more it reverts to resembling the plain green form.
I've seen it go from nearly black in the shade of the front yard..to this that gets much more light.
So why did I move it? It was blocking the mailbox in front and a danger to visitors near the stairs. This was next best spot for this spiny plant

I've got one of these but it is only about 2 feet tall.
They're lovely plants :)

Thanks Sandra,Howell. Nothing really rare..it just looks nice.
My original lasted from 1992- 1998. So far this one has survived every winter since. Hence,it gets rewarded with extra tlc.
