Willow fat ball feeder

Willow fat ball feeder

I made this at our Suntrap Gardening club meeting on Tuesday evening. It was the first time we have ever attempted to make anything at our meetings and we had great fun. It was too wet and windy to take a photo outside.

Our tutor lives in Kirkliston. He runs Auldgate Willows. I think it will take a bit of practice to reach his standard of workmanship.

I like it too. What a good idea. It might work with wisteria stems which in the past I have used to weave a wreath. ?

That is a good suggestion Mel. I was thinking it might work with cistus stems. They come with lovely stems of winter colour which need to be pruned hard in Spring. We used 1m lengths.

We've all been thinking along the same lines - I wondered about dogwood stems! I've followed the photos/text on your website and am tempted to give it a try :)

Gee19 I meant cornus (dogwood). I do not grow it but my daughter does and it seems to be a good use for the stems which need to be cut down. If you do have a go at it do post the result.

I will - I have several dogwoods in the front garden. I might tie myself in knots doing it though :)
