Looks quite yellow, that's nice and cheery.

Siris it is one of the originals in the garden you have to hand pollinate to get seed but the seedlings i have flowered are always cream.
Karen can't help you on that as I said they don't breed true. needs micro culture can't do that lol

Karen - check out Ashwood Nursery. Not cheap but excellent plants

Yes I agree Andrew that's where most of our original plants came from, we lived not far from Ashwood Nurseries one of the best in the country.

Amy sounds an appropriate name will be interesting to see the blooms on yours.
This one has been struggling with the wet some flowers damping off ,never seen this happen with any of my other ones.

Will do. Thanks Andrew.

Karen
All Ashwoods plants are lovely. Even ten years ago they had the nickname Stockbroker plants with several of my friends

Yes! I can see why! I ordered two yellow ones Brian. One plain single yellow with gold anthers and one single yellow with a red central star. I saw so many that I wanted so badly!! I think I need to avoid that website in future! ;)

Karen when I used to show the Primulas in the midlands we would often visit and were shown the private garden and there nursey plants, the breeding program for the Hellebore at that time was in full swing, the owners are in a class of there own when it comes to hybridizing

John Massey who owns the nursery is a friend and one of the nicest people you could meet, and so unassuming, but very, very, knowledgeable in the plant world, when we go up to the Midlands we always call there for breakfast and to buy a plant......they have only started to do mail order, thank goodness!!
As Brian knows, Johns private garden is wonderful, he opens to the public, I do miss the nursery we went every weekend for over 30 years!! and bought something every week, that was how we came to move and bring nearly 1,000 plants with us!!

I went to a talk in Oxford last year given by John Massey. If he is giving one in your area, go! You are certain to be entertained and educated.

Sounds absolutely wonderful! his hellebores are certainly a revelation! I've seen Ashwood Hellebores in some Nurseries before...or maybe online...not sure, I'd certainly heard of them. But didn't know they had a mail order service and website. The plants are so lovely I'm actually scared to go and look at their other plants!

Andrew will do, have met him a couple of times but only being shown around in a group.

It is one of the best nurseries in the country, most of the staff have been there for years, and the place is always kept immaculate, I do not know of another one that could match it, unfortunately....... still hoping!!
24 Feb, 2015
I'm not sure that I dare to look ,maybe just a peep !!
24 Feb, 2015
Amy pay it a visit but leave the café /Gift shop till last otherwise you will never see the nursery.
24 Feb, 2015
Oh you cannot go without tea cake and icecream Amy!!
24 Feb, 2015
Dotty I bet she is beginning to drool now .
It is worth a visit just for the café.

Amy
Pictures can sometimes create a vision that is disappointing in real life, unlikely to be the case if you ever manage a visit although spring is best.

Oh my! Thats gorgeous. I'm supposed to be hunting for a yellow one for my golden border, but I have been so busy lately and haven't got around to going to any GCs except to buy compost and seed. Still time though....I must get off my backside!
