Archontophoenix cunninghamiana - King Palms

Archontophoenix cunninghamiana - King Palms (Archontophoenix cunninghamiana - King Palm)

These King palms were planted by me in my previous house back in August of 1994. They looked like blades of grass only 3" tall when planted. They are 30' tall now. It's incredible to see them still thriving after 20 years. Photo taken in Mission San Jose, Fremont, CA. in the San Francisco Bay Area on March 1, 2015.

Those look great Andy. Especially with the sun bleached white trunks making them look super tropical.
Whats the tree to the right?

These trees are on Bruce Dr. in Mission San Jose, Fremont, if you ever want to see them.

The tree to the right is a Southern Magnolia. There's one in my front yard here...I never seem to get rid of these messy trees. lol! :>)

I have a Samuel Sommer Magnolia. The mess has had me wanting to chop it down. But,relatives like the look. I prune the heck out of it..sort of like the Ficus nitida in soucal that some people have an extremely high percentage of branches removed. As the Japanese say,"It looks like the birds can fly through it"
I do it to increase light and I guess it lowers the mess from "very".
Nice droopy long fronds on those Kings.

Stan510:

These tree loose so many leaves in the summer. That's what drives me nuts! If it lost leaves in winter it wouldn't be so bad.

It appears the owners of the house continue to take care of these palms. They also have big king palms in the back yard (which I can barely see from the side gate). I know I had planted 3 or 4 king palms in the back yard; however, not sure if these are the same ones.
