This crazy hummingbird build her nest at eye level in my guava tree just outside the back door. I think she has eggs there. Photo taken March 14, 2015.

Bloomer:
A couple of years ago a hummingbird made a nest a little higher up in this tree. I got some good photos of the hummingbird babies (typically only two). I'll easily get some more pics.

Terratoonie:
I was hoping the hummingbird wouldn't make her nest so low where we disturb her every time we go out the back door.

Delonix ... what does the Hummingbird use to make the nest ? Is it twigs etc., similar to other birds ? It looks rather different to 'usual' nests....

I think they use twigs, kapok (from the Chorisia speciosa trees here).

Ah... I think the kapok is what I can see in your photo... do you have a photo of the tree which provides the kapok please ?

Thanks ... that first photo I had 'liked' 6 years ago, so that's my excuse for needing a reminder ... Lol.

I know I can't believe it's been 6 years. I can't believe it's been almost 7 years since I joined GoY. It's been a great 7 years! :>)

Yes ... lots of fun years on GoY :o)))
I joined GoY just a few weeks before you ...

Yes, I noticed that...
I hope they'll be many more years of good, interesting comments on GoY in the future! :>)

Marguerite:
There's hummingbird nest all over the trees here right now.
My neighbor's large bottlebrush tree is full of them. I don't trim any trees this time of year. Last year when I cut back my Ficus craterastoma I accidentally cut down a humming bird's nest with eggs. I felt so horrible!
There's two eggs in the nest. They hatch very quickly and in about 6 weeks the babies most likely will be off to start their lives. lol!

Many people put cameras above owl, hawks and California Condor nests. I could not do that to the hummingbirds, though. I will take photos of the babies when they hatch, though. I still get amazed how they can all fit into such a tiny nest.
I don't like wasps'. I'm glad we don't have many here. When I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. There used to be so many...and they would build their mud nests below the eaves of the house.
