Tulips in the lower garden

This photo would make a lovely Birthday card. Almost doesn't look real, like a painting.

Thanks. It is a magical area of the garden.

Rather than fight with the shade, generated by the large deciduous trees in the park, we decided to create this woodland area.

I love this and it seems a less formal area than the other areas is this right?

The garden has three main areas. The upper garden, with the lawn, is the more formal area. Many of the plants are kept to scale and proportion with each other by careful pruning. The lawn is useful for family gatherings, marquees, open days etc. This area photographs well from the house - strong shapes - likened to a tapestry!

The middle area is the jungle, with a wooden pagoda, palms, bamboos, bananas. It has a small stream and a very large gunnera plant.

The lower garden is the woodland area in the photo above. It has the longer stream and perennial plants in the summer. A difficult area to do justice with the camera - but provides a wonderful experience to wander through!

This is beautiful. Is it a large garden? It looks as if it is.

No, it's not that large. About a quarter acre.
