The Cornus actually has 6 bracts this year . . . slow going, but that's the most yet!

Glad you have one too, Klahanie. Do you ever cut it back? I haven't liked to tackle mine as I've waited 7 or 8 years for any bracts to appear! They are beautiful . . . seeing one smothered in blooms made me want one, but sadly mine, as you see, is spindly rather than bushy.

Dogwoods are slow to establish. I would not cut it back Sheila. Sometime I just cut the little stem on spent flower but that means I am loosing the pretty seed ball. Mine looks like yours.
It will develop this lax "layered" branching habit which is so characteristic for it.
It is a tree of choice here as it was discovered (probably not a right word) by Mr.Eddie in Vancouver. and there are plenty of them around. Our native Cornus nuttallii is our provincial BC flower. We have few of these scattered in the woods probably distributed by birds.

How wonderful to see them 'en masse' Klahanie . . . definitely one of my favourites.

It is a beautiful Cornus Sheila. I have one of them too. It is very popular here as it is stunning when it is mature and covered by blooms.
