Oriental Poppy

Amazing poppies just love them, I have only just put some in this year in the dry corner of the garden as I think they like poor soil?

I have quite a lot of fairly ordinary poppies that self-seed every year. They come up in odd corners and in between the flags on the patio so, yes, I think they do like poorer soil. Mind you, all my soil is very sandy and comparatively dry.

They are lovely,Mel..I haven't had any for ages,but today,I found a rogue one growing in a border,so I'm looking forward to seeing what colour it is..thank you birdies,I think :o)

They are such lovely plants, Bloomer. If only they lasted longer... But we can't have everything!

Gifts from the birds are such a bonus!

Even better,Mel..I found another one tonight,whilst I was watering :o) It's a long border which is well grown together now,so it was more good luck that I spotted them :o)

I always keep the seed heads, partly because I love the look of them, but also so I can shake the seeds around when they are really dry. I just love poppies. The ones in the photo were bought as a plant several years ago, but I have some with lovely glaucous foliage which I grew from seed Mum gave me, and lads of Welsh poppies which seed everywhere and Californian poppies. I deadhead them all daily to extend the flowering seasonas long as possible.

So glad you found another. Once they take hold, you should get returners each year.

I also have lots of the Orange and Yellow Welsh poppies,Mel ,I saved seeds when we moved here,and now all my neighbours have some which have seeded themselves in their gardens.. Luckily they all love them too,so it's looking very pretty just now : I will be waiting impatiently for the other buds to open...:o)
