Deer does not like Lori?

Its like a hydrangea but the foliage is so much nicer!

I like the foliage too, Karen. It reminds me of the highbush viburnum trilobum..but the pink flowers with white brachts caught my eye, plus the stems are red as well. similar to an oakleaf hydrangea but a bit more colourful. I'm still looking for a couple of arrowwood viburnum to grow a little "thicket" each side of the Onondaga and as a wind break for the frog pond and upper perennial beds.

I can't remember what the tag said, Klahanie! I think they like to call them "deer resistant"...which makes me chuckle.

Yeah...so funny! I can just hear them growling with resistance as the Deer edge closer! Lori, I used to grow Viburnum sargentii, so I can recall the red stems. I thought it was a lovely shrub. I don't know why I haven't got one now....perhaps I will have one in this garden some day.

I have grown the V.trilobum and V. arrowood and loved them both. They're pretty in spring and provide light shade which breaks the heat on a summer's day. I had Japanese Spurge growing under them..and aegopodium and a kind of lychnis which had red foliage and yellow flowers! It was an emigree from the neighbour's yard but colonized anywhere it could find a bear piece of soil! I miss my town garden; we went back to see a friend over a year ago, now, and all my front garden was totally gone but the fence I put up around the back garden was still standing as was the birdhouse I built for the sparrows. Have you ever been tempted to go on a sentimental journey?

No. Definitely not, but the front is exactly as I left it.

LOL... bear and bare! it's old age. It took the new owners four years to make changes...but they were drastic... They took out my maple tree and planted grass again, and they removed the Virginia Creeper from the north end of the house. it looks very suburban... meanwhile the VC, a campsis radicans, clematis virginiana, a Chinese wisteria and a Concord grape are established in places of honour in my new gardens. truly love climbers. I'm starting to work on the firepit and the veggie garden area. The town garden was on a landfill site and I didn't trust the soil...the whole town was poisoned by pre-regulation era industry.
