Daylily - very strange centre. When watering I came across anotherone- then there were 2. Wondering what causes this, could it be fasciation or similar?

There are somewhere around 70,000 named daylilies now. If you go to the website of the American Hemerocallis Society, (www.daylilies.org) there is a dictionary of terms with photos of the different forms and types. The one on the left looks like a peony type double.

Thanks, it looks a bit like a carnation and I thought maybe it was caused by bugs or a virus etc. You learn something new every day.

No it's a double flowered variety Thorney which one I wouldn't like to guess ;-) , there are lots of different forms of daylily doubles, spiders, unusual forms, spatulate shaped, ones with teeth and fancy edges and now even ruffles down the middle of the petals ( see Wylieintheazores latest blog)
