Found this today..along with the Oriole nest and his mate. Busy day!
Summer is great. I wish it would never end.

I would prefer the never ending summer the Beach Boys sing about!
Once they figure out how to get fresh water out of sea water cheaply..it can get as warm as it wants Kahanie.

I love the flowers!

I didn't even notice them forming...then -boom- there they were.
They do well considering there more tropical location in Brazil. I haven't had great success with the Mexican or Arizona barrel cacti. Lost them to winter rains.

It looks great! I'm surprised the barrel cacti died there.

I do have two Golden Barrels...but in our last wet year my largest collapsed. The red hook Ferocactus never seem to do well in our tepid summers.
Without a doubt, cacti in the bay area are not on easy street. Our sometimes wet winters and clay soils do them no good. Exceptions are the known cant kills (Cereus and others) otherwise you need to work at it.
We all cant have a hillside like Berkeley Botanical Garden or a acre or two of gravel amended grounds like the Ruth Bancroft garden. You know what I mean!

I know Cereus and Hylocereus are from wetter climates...so they don't need the very dry weather.
