Lake with water lilies

Lake with water lilies

This is your first sight when you enter the gardens at RHS Wisley

The house is lovely! Not keen on the formality of the pond though. It reminds me of Hampton Court. You know, formal gardens are really not my thing. However, the first time I saw the formal garden at Hampton, the Orangerie garden I think it's called...the walled garden anyway...I loved it. Its the only formal garden I really love. But the bit of Hampton where they have the straight pond like this...not keen. I find it too exposed..there's nowhere to 'hide' is there?!

Formal gardens not my thing either Karen, as you've no doubt spotted, but this is right for its location, and the water lilies are lovely :)

It must be an impressive start to the visit. The lawn looks like velvet!

Yes, everything is so well cared for Chris - no doubt there's a vast team of gardeners working there. Thanks Sandra . . . do you know how many?!

Do you mean ,how many different gardens,or Gardeners,Sheila? I think I've lost the plot here ,pardon the pun :o)

When we were there (years ago) there was a notice by the lake saying 'X children had fallen in' that year so far and whilst we were looking a kid just ran off the path straight in.

Lol,Sheila..do you know how many Gardeners ? I don't think I could attempt to guess at that..definitely a lot..I wouldn't mind being one of them, but light duties only..:o)

Siris - it's not really a place for children, is it?!

No idea Sandra - must be dozens of gardeners. The only public garden I've ever worked in was Compton Acres (between Bournemouth and Poole) and my teenage task was just selling the tickets in the kiosk.

That would be quite nice,Sheila..we used to be recruited by local farmers,in the holidays,to pick Raspberries, potato's and Swedes, which we called Turnips in those days..we had never heard of Swedes :o)We were lucky if we earned enough to go to the Cinema on Saturday night! Lol.
