It's beautiful. Good luck with finding an Oriental species.

PAPAVER ORIENTALE BEAUTY OF LIVERMERE is just like this!

Bought three this year and they were all orange rather than red. Me thinks I could have been swizzled now you are saying that. Monty has Beauty of Livermore hence why I tried them. So disappointing when they are not what you expected.

Tell me about it. I didnt get the Lilies I ordered. My ranunculus and anemones were completely the wrong colour, and even my nasturtiums came out completely orange instead of dark red!! Yes, very annoying. Trick is to buy when in flower...thats what I'm going to do from now on.

it is very annoying think they watch what is talked about on the gardening programmes and then just stick labels in to suit. Not nice, especially if you are doing a colour co-ordinated border.

yeah, you could be right!

Nice Poppy, Olive!

The Opium Poppy grows all over Gerry's allotments just like a weed! They pop up not just were they grew the previous year but in other unlikely places as well! I generally leave them till they have finished flowering - if they are not where we intend to sow/plant out something - then I pull them up & consign them to the compost heap. As I deadhead them as they finish flowering there are never (many!) seedheads that could drop their seeds for a future generation.

thanks Balcony apparently poppies can lay dormant for years and when the conditions are right they grow and bloom. :O)

Yes, that's why they suddenly appear, especially if the ground is disturbed. Which is why all the poppies appeared after the Battle of the Somme.

Yes, I've heard the same. As there are always
poppies growing on the allotments some will always manage to set seed.
