Todays task - all done taken after all the sweat and tears and the stings.

Taken most of the day, not got out all the nettle roots but at least I can see bare ground now.

Did you know that people used to beat themselves with stinging nettles as a relief from the pain of rheumatism? Out of the frying pan... But I notice on your "before" picture someone comments that they knew a person who reckoned the stings helped her arthritis. Interesting.

Melchi, that was me that posted about that - the reason being that the stings increase the blood flow. I had also heard about the thrashing with nettles but don't remember much about that.
When my ex was a boy certain foods would bring him up in huge ichy lumps (hives) such as ice cream, strawberries & anything acidic, the doctor told his mother to keep a nettle patch, cut some when young & bright green, boil & give a glass of the cooled juice to him each day. It worked!

There are 101 uses for nettles, here's a link (No 56 mentions the thrashing) if you're interested.

Thanks for that info, Green finger. I find these things fascinating.

Yes, indeed, Mel, in times gone by the nettle patch was common as food source like spinach along with dandelions & nasturtiums which are nice in salads. I also use the seed pods of nasturtiums as capers too.

I've heard about using nasturtium seeds, Green finger. I love nasturtiums, but I don't grow them any more because they always get smothered in blackfly.
