In a heavy Terra Cotta and a saucer under it- a must in dry California.
Being that Gophers eat the roots of healthy plants?,Its worth a try to re root what they fell. A lesson.

I remember the days of battling gophers. It's good it had some roots left.

No, Andy it had no roots left. In fact the gophers had eaten past the roots and right up to the base. I got to find the photos of it.
It was growing in my back yard behind the big tree fern when one day I saw it leaning. I pulled it straight up...nothing.
Sort of like those Plumeria cuttings dipped in wax sold at curio shops.
It came back in pure perlite...later I tossed soil on that.

Wow! I remember those days. My Dypsis decaryi palms used to get eaten all the way up to the base when I lived in Mission San Jose, Fremont.
