Thanks everyone :-) Karen, I found the trees seemed small for ages but them boom! Exciting.

I've planted three Silver Birches Dawn....they were only about 2 feet when I bought them.....and that was two years ago now. This year they at least look as though they are growing strongly, but the nursery said it would take seven years before I really can see the white bark and start to enjoy them. It's an exercise in patience! :)

Another year and they'll be well away. Last year I planted Betula Utilis Jacquemontii Snow Queen and was told the same - be years before the white trunks show. Oh, I must tell you, the other day we went a walk round Bluebell Arboretum. It was amazing, they had a Betula with peeling bark amongst many many beautiful trees planted over 9 acres.

That's where I got them! lol! Silver Shadow is the var...over £30 each! eek! But I know they will be worth the wait. :) Would love to take a walk around Bluebell. Could you go again and do a blog please....;)
