I'm so impressed with my Dahlias this year !

Thank you Chris, Amy and Shirley ! They are in a cutting border on our little allotment and I always sprinkle ant powder around them at regular intervals ! It keeps the earwigs at bay....well...most of the time !

Good idea,with the ant powder, Rose..not heard of that remedy before..I haven't grown Dahlia's for a few years now..

It does work Sandra, but it has to be applied every time it rains !

That's good..and I can vouch for that,with all the ants we have had around our doors this past few weeks ! never seen as many...and a few got in the Conservatory too,if we forgot to shut the door..nasty little creatures ! I've been using a spray,or some diluted bleach..and still, the b....rs come ! lol

If you could have seen how many ants we get each year Sandra, especially in the conservatory with the doors shut, you would be appalled ! The first year we came here, it looked like a huge mountain ! It was awful ! I lost count how many drums of ant powder I used, plus lots of ant baits round the house and inside, but they still came ! It was like something out of a horror film, especially when they all started to fly, so I did the only thing I could think of and filled the hoover with ant powder and hoovered them all up! Yuk !

Well,that's one way,Rose..sorry,but I had to laugh about the Hoover! Russell laughed when I read it to him too :o)It seems to have been a bad year..we have sealed any tiny holes we could see,around the doorsteps etc,but still they come..My neighbour has been worse than us..then again,we all have paved patio's,so lots of hiding places grrr !

You think you have killed them all, don't you, but they still turn up ! I have an ornamental boot which had a viola in it and as it wasn't doing any good, emptied it out ! Hundreds of ants spilled out ! I put ant powder in the boot and it took two days to kill them !

Ooh,not nice..luckily,I've never found any in pots..maybe the odd one on a rim,so I think myself lucky..I think I would have poured boiling water in it,and covered the top,so they couldn't get out..I only have the Spray stuff.which seems to stop them in their tracks..I stand there like a gun toting mad thing,waiting for the next ones to show :o)
