Your soil looks great!

It has improved over the years, moved that Hibiscus it has not had a leaf or flower to speak of this year, so it was a case of trying to save it or lobbing it in the wood. Decided to give it a chance and had a huge hole to dig to put it in, the clay soil is about four inches further down now from when I started the garden, amazing what old grow bags and leaf mould can achieve. lol.

I did wonder as I've heard you complain about your soil. We are very lucky to have beautiful black loam, notwithstanding the clay brought in by the last owner that I am gradually lobbing in to the field!

Paul got me some bags of old mushroom compost some years ago and that has worked wonders too.

I could do with some, where do you get it from please?

A local mushroom farm Waddy well I think that was where he got it from. Every so often they clear out the old compost and sell it off.

Thanks I'll try and find one.

Our local Nurseries all sell mushroom compost... it's good stuff, but cannot be used for everything....

Had a whole lorry load delivered to a previous new build house once - it was great but I didn't realise then that the added chalk makes it unsuitable for the ericaceous plants.

The soil does look good, you can't see mine for plants. What about stable manure. I go to a local stable occasionally with my empty compost bags and dig my own. They are desperate to get rid of the stuff, it just keeps on coming! But you need to age it before adding to the garden.

I have some in plastic bags ageing here, have used it on the borders in previous years too :O) all good stuff.

Feed the soil, and the plants will thank you in return.
