It almost looks like a species of Ficus. It's too difficult to tell, though.

I briefly looked... but I do not think it is Ficus, Delonix1 More like the Victorian Box as Stan suggested. I will post picture of leaves in the afternoon.

Pittosporum undulatum can have a very dense and large crown. The flowers are very sweetly fragrant; however, the fruit is really messy. The San Francisco Bay Area has many large, old trees.

A closeup up of the leaves Klahanie might help. I have seen a similar looking tree here in the Pittosporum family. Victorian box is one.
I should post it and another I have seen around town. If not the same..they have the same look.
