Why, walking? Does it spread rapidly, or is it just likely to disappear one day?

Neomarica plants are clumping perennials Feverfew.
The flowers are short lived, lasting only a day with numerous blooms to follow. I think the "walking" part of the name is referring to how they propagate. When the new plantlet is formed at the tip of the flower stalk, it bends to the ground and takes root. This new plant then repeats the process. Thus, giving the illusion of walking or moving about as it spreads.
I love these exotic looking tiny blooms. Very pretty when massed in one place.
