Even if used in somewhere dry like a barn, the box base would become soggy and disintegrate because of bird droppings etc.

Don't leave it there on the table too long ... you might get squatters ... wrens ? mice ?

I once made one of these out of popsicle sticks. It was quite sturdy and a bird lived in it all summer.
FYI - never use water soluble glue for construction.

Hi Bathgate ... what type of bird was in your popsicle box ?

They are easy and fun to build and takes paint really well. You don't even need a blueprint. Just picture it in your mind - then off you go!
It was the common house sparrow Terra. I was glad somebody appreciated my hard work.
Gg - My God yes Gg! It's intensifying as I type this. The sound is horrendous. I hope my house can handle it.

Hoping people and animals/birds in the USA stay safe in the storms.
I have lots of sparrows in my garden, despite their numbers decreasing in many parts of the UK.

Hi Terra
I have house sparrows started off with 4 about 10 years ago when we all moved in to the new build houses must be up to a good 30/40 now, me plus a lady a couple of doors down we feed 12 months of the year but they have now cottoned on to the house martins nests in the close, the fighting that goes on !!!

Thank you Terra - It's par for the course, winter claiming its rightful place. Makes Spring so much more enjoyable once it gets here.

Hi Gnarly ...
Some years ago, I stopped feeding the sparrows, but they still come to my garden in great numbers. They like hunting around in the dog-run gravel, and visiting the bird baths.

yes ... Paul ... all seasons have their good points !
Springtime is my favourite.

Terra you must have lots of cover for them , mine love the ivy on the trellis as a roost during the day.

Yes, Gnarly ...
lots of ceanothus climbing along my trellis fences, full of sparrows !

We have a family of Sparrows that live in the Hawthorn hedges. It's lovely when they visit the garden.

Those sparrows are tough little guys. God knows how they weathered that storm we had yesterday, and all night! Today they're flittering about my bird feeder.
24 Jan, 2016
Glad the storm has abated Paul, must have been scary. A lot of snow got deposited didn't it. It's the clearing up and slush that's awful too. Glad your sparrows survived, they are tough little birds.

Thanks Linda. It was not fun at all.
