This species has lilac blue flowers which can be very pale - this named version has a deeper colouring. In the wild it grows in woodland clearings, in scrubland, or on open slopes. In cultivation in needs a well-drained soil but a summer baking is not necessary. It should be planted deeper than normal for a crocus.
