It conjures up atmosphere.

That is how it was built over 50 years ago. It's now 50 years since my family moved up here from London. The pub had only been finished perhaps a year before. I don't really know as the day we moved here my father sent me ahead with the keys for the new house so that I could let the gas & electricity board workers in to connect the power supplies.

He told me to catch the bus from the town centre & to ask for the "Lord Protector" but when I got here I'd forgotten the "Protector" bit! I didn't catch the bus either! To this day I don't remember how I found the house as I'd never seen it before! I'd visited the town some months earlier with my father but at that stage he didn't know what house we would be allocated. We just spent the day walking around the the new housing estate that was still being built!
