This Sausage tree has many buds and flowers and it even has the sausage-like fruit from last year's flowers. Photo taken from Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on March 25, 2016.

I heard eating the fruit is hallucinogenic.
It has some hardiness. One is growing that I know of in the bay area.

Stan,
It's a very tropical tree. However, when they get big they have a little big of hardiness. They can take the occasional frost and temp to freezing for a very short time...most likely they'll loose their leaves, though. It loves a lot of water, though. I still have several I started from seed, which I need to sell.

Love the name!! The fruits do look like sausage/slim salami. So funny!! The flower is very unique too. Wrinkly laughing creature from outer space? lol
