It will open eventually Thrupennybit.

Thank you Bathgate, it is very dark red when it opens. I have a another, lighter red, caled Hoki just beside it . Also young white: Paeonia 'Renkaku' (Flight of Cranes)
but I do not see a bud on that one. It was munched on earlier. Deer usually leave peony alone so I do not know why they decided to taste this one. Hopefully it tasted awful.

Maybe he was starving to death and just couldn't resist? This will look amazing when it opens fully.

Do you have any peonies Bathgate? They would like your climate. Lovely flowers in May and the leaves are attractive all year round.

I don't have a Peony. I wonder if one would do well along my back garden wall where it get's partial sun.

I do not know Bathgate, I think they like sun.

Bathgate, partial sun is more than ok. 4 of Mine in partial sun do well, especially in summer, because if they are in full sun position, the leaves get burned in high summer and look very sad and painful (only in high summer though).

OK that is good information to know. I think I have a good position for them. I will look some over.

Hope you'll get a nice peony or two (or more?) very soon!!

Me too! This will be my first one. I hope I get a good one.

I look forward to seeing your peony photos next year or later!!!

LOL If I'm still alive. What kind would you recommend? Any favorites?

I like yellow one (don't know the name etc.), which I'd love to have, because the scent was exquisite in my parents' garden. Having said that, any tree peony blossoms have sweet smell, therefore, it doesn't matter too much, I think, what kind of peony you choose. Just a matter of preference, in my humble opinon; "what colour?" and "single or double?" kind of stuff! Good luck!!!

I have seen one called Bartonella (yellow) but I would have to mortgage the house to buy it. It was beautiful and already mature. Expensive plants.

Thanks Tommymoo for letting us know that they like part shade.
