Bullfinch

How big is it Amy. Barry and I have been trying to name a bird I saw in the garden that looked similar to this. He said they were tiny while the bird I saw was bigger than he was describing.

A lovely bird ,Amy..I've only ever seen one twice here,in 14 years ! You might not see the goldfinches like me,but this little beauty makes up for them:o)

Thanks all we have lots of these they disappear in the summer but then return for the winter ..Linda the females are much smaller maybe a little larger than a sparrow and very dull compared to the male mostly brown , the male is bigger and chubbier as you can see twice the size of a Robin at an estimate ..

Linda my Hubby tells me I've over estimated the Bullfinch is probably more like one and a half times larger than a Robin, sorry !

Thanks Amy......my book says it can be up to 6 1/2 inches.

I have these most of the time in the garden lucky me, size wise on a par with a green finch but if you do not see them either will not be much help
did a painting of them some years ago !
