I hadn't realized they were in flower either Sue until I spotted a flash of white they hide in the leaves , I'm longing to pick a bunch but don't want to spoil that patch .

Tried so many times to grow Lily of the Valley without success. I bought a new plant a couple of weeks ago. Lets hope this time it's successful. Yours looks lovely Amy, I can almost smell it.

My Lily of the Valley is almost open, tomorrow maybe, and I have found/located one piece of the variegated leaved one, hurrah, thought I had lost/mislaid it.

Waddy I didn't have any success with mine until I moved it a couple of years ago it spreading like mad in its new position mostly in the shade all day .. I haven't seen a variegated one Sue please put a photo on ..

I've got my new plant in a pot this time Amy. It has shade part of the day...would you put it in the shade most of the day?

Mine are in the shade Waddy they might get a little sun at some point but not much ,they are a woodland plant our local bluebell wood has vast expanses of them growing wild ...

Mine seem happy in a cool windy north facing dry bed - sounds awful but they seem to like it.

I'm sure they do Sue they're not fussy and best left alone ...

Amy, one piece of the variegated L of V, turned up in the middle of a clump of London Pride, different border from where I 'lost' it. Still too small to photograph or flower, maybe later, of the 2 leaves, green with yellow stripes.

Makes you wonder how they 'move' doesn't it ? I'm always finding plants in different places far away from the original plant ,I'm guessing we move a plant taking another one with it when its dormant ,an elderly friend always blames the Ants !

Right, I'll move it to a more shady spot where I'm sure it will be happier. Thanks Amy ;-))

I think you are right Amy, was your friend serious about relocation Ants?
17 May, 2016
Deadly serious Sue he's an old country boy he says he has watched them trundling along with seeds etc. I know they move cyclamen seeds I've seen them do that I have them growing in all sorts of places ,keep up the good work little workers :o)

That explains a lot about why I find plants growing in my garden where I know full well I never planted them...but my garden has loads of ants all over the place...in fact I've never know a garden with as many ant as mine has...they're everywhere!

I know Ants shift seeds, but do they have wheelbarrows for the established plants! Lol
19 May, 2016
My gardens the same with ants Waddy they make mounds under mining plants raising them out of the ground also for years I've tried to stop their procession across the kitchen floor in the summer they are like elephants who never forget their paths ! Um I'd like to see that Sue Lol ..

What a lovely mental picture of a line of ants trundling little wheelbarrows....
We have lots of them too, and they get under the block paving and excavate the sand.

Ants should be like Lemmings, march off the edge!
Amy have just put a pic up of the variegated L of Valley, be warned, it is small.

My ants stay in the garden Amy, I've never had them in the house thank goodness!

Thank you! You inspired me to jump up and go outside to weed round mine - they look better without the seeded speedwell and cow parsley...I hadn't realised they were in bud. Won't belong now!
