I am a fan of black, if placed in a position to set it off.

This is registered as 6", but it gets bigger, and stands over 1m tall; so it is easy to place.

One meter would cause me problems, I was more thinking of a pale coloured backdrop.

Spikes of delphiniums or Canterbury bells would work.

I would place Daylilies with space, if available, to appreciate their beauty.
