They (slate chippings) were already here, actually Timmy but I had to lift them as there was no membrane so the weeds kept coming through. But , I dug some borders and just replaced the slate in the other areas.

We spent most of last summer pulling out weeds...mainly oxalis!

Yes, horsetail/mares tail is a tough one to deal with.
