TET, 7" across. Slight pink tinge and great pattern sets it apart from other Life is a Highway children.

If you "self" a daylily (pod and pollen from the same plant), it will not be true or be considered true. You have to increase your stock either by division or with proliferations. There is usually a leaf on a scape, and sometimes a plant grows from that. It will be identical to the main plant. A single grain of pollen produces 1 seed in the pod, which is why there are differences between siblings. Also, pollination has to be done early in the morning. When it warms up, a sticky clear substance is produced on the stigma and the pollen should already be there to begin its journey down the pistil. After rain during the night stops, some flowers will then produce pollen, or I have some from the previous day that was dried and refrigerated; and I blot the stigma with a piece of paper towel and apply pollen and then cover it with a foil cap. I have been able to get seed to set this way.

Wow...dedication indeed. Thanks Wylie. Interesting about the scape sometimes making a new plant.

At the beginning of the season I worry about getting seed to start next year. But now that I have over 100 pods ripening, I can start too take it easy.

The pattern is fascinating on this one. When you get a single seedling as good as this, do you go on to propogate by division Wylie...or will it come true from seed if isolated?
