My unknown Iris

Lori

By Lori

My unknown Iris

It was left behind by the previous owner...or perhaps it was just a small root that was missed. I call it Grape Kool-aide because it has a scent that reminds me of the drink and because it's colour (although not obvious in this shot) is a grape purple.

It was nice of Brian to think I could Id this for you, I am just an enthusiast with a small collection of bearded although more than most, but Sorry, Lori, if it is a purply colour, don't know. I don't even know what grape cool aid smells of. There are so many named ones on the market and also home grown ones that haven't even made the market. The most common old blue variety with a scent is Jane Philips, but this looks more vivid. Just enjoy!!!

Thanks Siris! I love them all and I'm not really all that concerned with putting names on them. If they're happy with me...then I'm happy with them.

That's the attitude if they are for our pleasure only. I have been so cross this year with named Iris I have bought and turn out to be something I already have, having waited for them to flower for 2 or 3 years.

Have had that name-game problem with roses, iris and liatris. I bought two roses at the same place..(at different times, unfortunately) both were labelled Therese Bugnet. I had a huge briar Bugnet in my town garden and it scented the whole street. Delightful creature..but..it has the most vicious spines you'll ever see...so I bought a new one because moving dangerous rose bushes wasn't in my insurance policy. The first is T.B. but the second one I bought in the next season was named TB but it is totally different... smooth canes..few spines and the sawfly and beetles just love it... It was a small plant when I bought it and I thought it was just it's juvenile form. ..wrong again!... It is blooming and smells lovely but it's ravaged...the first is not in blossom yet but looks the picture of health and few bugs on it! Somebody goofed! I don't care about the mixup... I love both of them... just wish I knew what to expect of the second one.
If you've ever bought Jello Jelly Powder in the grape flavour ...that's the aroma of my purple iris. I have some of it still in the transfer bed along with the Midnight Revelry and both are starting to bloom.. can't wait for the MR... it's colour is outstanding but no scent.
