Lol I did love it Siris but now I have well over 300, including seedlings, some have to go to make room for this years seedlings, every year I say no more seeds but Wylie keeps tempting me ;-), I did keep a couple of its siblings though , and at least it's gone to a good home :-)

Thank you so much Simbad, I really like it, it stands out. The first bud was really fat and yellow, and took about a week to open, so exciting.

It's dreaded gall midge time here , a couple of this years seedlings that I thought I was going to see flower have had every bud damaged, oh well plenty more that haven't :-)
Glad you like it, the others I saved from this cross are covered in buds again, can't wait !

So exciting, Simbad. I too have experienced the dreaded gall midge. I have taken all the deformed buds off a couple of small clumps. Is it going to be a bad year with the wet for this problem?

I dont think it is caused by bad weather, it is more likely to attack the early flowering varieties, we had a lot last year, and also this year, so disappointing.

Yes it only affects the earlies luckily , a lot of people on the BHHS say it seems a really bad year for them just wish some sort of control could be found , I pick off and destroy all buds I see but they still come back , I saw an article recently saying bug clear sprayed on the buds in early June does help but doesn't stop them completely , next year I'm going to try it on the earlies , Gnarley Gnome has used vine weevil killer watered into the soil early in the season too so that's worth a try , maybe work out a bit expensive for me but I'll try it on the ones worst affected each year.

Having just read up about Gall Midge, have taken all the distorted buds off Siloam Show Girl. Think some others have it as well. Bet those larvae have already retrenched into the soil, pupating already, as snug as a bug in a rug! Too late to prevent an attack next year, unless the Vine weevil killer works. The info I read said some success had been achieved with garlic spray, but too late to spray now. If the lavae slid down the flower stems, not drop off, I wonder wether a ring of Vaseline would stop them reaching the ground?

On the bright side I have some lovely ones open today Blue Eyed Butterfly looks especially lovely and not a single gall midged bud on that one !, yet.

Fingers crossed for you Simbad. It is depressing a new unseen one all shrivelled, I think space coast dragon prince might be a victim.
