I am going green with envy. Bought a small one 3 years ago, got going and twice has succumbed to wilt. Think it has had it now.

No, third time lucky maybe, mine is resprouting. Perhaps it is slugs or snails eating the tiny fresh shoots, slug pellets to the ready.
Having said about 'things' eating through Clematis stems I think a rat (seriously) has chewed thro' an established viticella because it was obstructing it's running route.

Thanks for that Siris! The one thing I can't stand.

OH, Rats!! We saw one on next doors shed roof, 4 days ago, jumped onto our fence, then climbed down the trellis on our side, that's what made me believe a rat had chewed through the stem. I have now put a metal collar around the climbers in this corner.
