Arbutus crown lifted and the tree reduced by half!!

Arbutus crown lifted and the tree reduced by half!! (Arbutus Unedo.)

This tree was growing far too large and making the border very dark, so have halved the size, will grow clematis through the lower branches...not a montana! and have a spare shrub to go in the border too..

That looks amazing! I love the shapes made by the lower trunks/branches. So stylish! The bark on the Arbutus is well worth looking at anyway, so why not expose it? :)

K the tree is coming up for eight years ....glad you like it, I agree the bark is quite beautiful, it has been pruned back most years to stop it growing over the lawn.....we have two climbing roses behind it, so they will have some sunshine for a change!!

Ah....it's growing much faster than it would in Scotland...no surprises there. But what a beautiful feature. I really do love Arbutus! :)

The trimming has really open the area up, lightened it for the better.

I love Arbutus too but they do get very big over the years.
Love the habit of growth, also the bark, + flowers & fruit at the same time, it's quite a tree.

At the coast they do grow faster it is an attractive tree, and I am sure it will look much better next year.....

Nice bit of pruning there DD. We only have a small garden so the shrubs and small maples we have I have to keep pruned.

Same here..... just sorting the Pittosporum the garden has a lot of shrubs and they all need regular pruning.....so a full time job!! for the two of us!!
