It seems happy but doesn't get any bigger

Mine is only small in this garden as yet because it's a cutting from my old garden. In the old garden it grew to about 4 - 5 feet. Sometimes it died back slightly in the winter but not much. However we don't often get bad winters here.

hope you don't mind me butting in Joannie, but your soil looks like it could do with some organic matter - this might help it get bigger!

You're not butting in and I know what you mean Majeekahead, it does look a bit lacking doesn't it! The front garden's been a bit neglected this year while we've been concentrating on the back. Before next weekend I'm wanting to lay a path next to the raised beds so the pile of compost that left from when we moved the bins and which is now in the way can be dug in on the front.
