Hi Sheila, I think I saw a small tortoiseshell today, I will look out tomorrow. Oh heck, they were so common, sad. I have a 'wall' of Buddleja that are usually covered in butterflies but few and far between this year. I have loads of stinging nettles for them, not sure what else we can do.
I saw a Comma too but I couldn't get a decent photo.

I've been keeping an eye on the Buddleja but nothing to report ...

Apparently 'they' even want to know if we see no butterflies! But it's a good afternoon for them today . . . we're just relaxing after doing some vigorous gardening, and can see three small whites, a Brimstone, a Gatekeeper and a small blue (possibly a chalk hill blue?). Thanks for taking part folks . . .

They like the sunshine dont they. I've posted a picture of a Comma today and I did see a small tortoiseshell Sheila, ran to get the camera and it was gone and I carried the camera in my pocket all day but it didnt reappear. You saw alot this afternoon, lovely. I will look out again tomorrow.

I've had a message from the Big Butterfly count, asking if I've seen any more Small Tortoiseshells. I'd already submitted one 'sighting' and they say they are becoming very rare . . . so if anyone sees one before 7th August, they'd be grateful if you'd let them know. Thanks :)
